SIRIMLink Issue #2, 2009 is now available for download. Published by the Standards and Industrial Research Institute of Malaysia (SIRIM), SIRIMLink is a quarterly journal on the latest R&D news from the eminent research and quality organisation. The theme for Issue #2, 2009 “Getting to the Heart of Matter” is nanotechnology — that all-exciting science of small stuff.

The first issue of SIRIMLink for 2010 is out, with the focus this time around revolving around the company’s vast design and engineering capabilities.

The new and improved Standards and Quality News (S&Q, for short) by SIRIM Berhad is finally out!

Quality has long been associated with manufacturing industries. However, a new wave of consumers are demanding quality from other vital industries and areas too. The improvement efforts within these service sectors form the core concepts of Service Quality.

Those who grew up in the 1960s would be no stranger to the older units of measurement used back then: pounds and yards,gantang andela. Then in 1975, Malaysia implemented the International System of Units (SI) as the country’s official metrological system. For at least ten years afterward, both the older and newer systems coexisted in a state of uncomfortable transition, and then slowly, the older system faded away all together.

In their excitement to develop new technologies, scientists sometimes overlook how their inventions will work with each other. Usually, that job falls into the laps of harmonisation and standardisation organisations and technical industry forums. Think of the internet and all its dotcoms; think of the mobile content downloads; think of VOIP and IPTV — all these technologies took years of R&D to develop before they were finally taken into world forums, debated, discussed, refined and finally adopted globally.

SIRIM has always been a big fan of innovation, and in this issue, SIRIMLink revisits some of the company’s most successful and ambitious endeavours to date. Its contents include:

In 2015, Marcus Gomez & Partners published the final two volumes of S&Q News, SIRIM’s bi-annual magazine. S&Q News was an ongoing publication released by SIRIM that highlighted recent trends in local and worldwide quality and standards management. Marcus Gomez & Partners has overseen the design, copy-editing and publishing of over twenty volumes of S&Q News since 2009, when the project first began.
