The first issue of SIRIMLink for 2010 is out, with the focus this time around revolving around the company’s vast design and engineering capabilities.
In this issue, Marcus Gomez was honoured to have the chance to interview Y.Bhg Ir. Hj. Yahaya Ahmad, President and Chief Executive of SIRIM Berhad as he spoke about the company’s future. We also got the chance to meet the boys in the Design and Engineering division, and learned a whole lot about modern production techniques and technologies including reverse engineering, rapid prototyping and computer-aided design and engineering.
We also spoke to Mohamad Shalan Hassan, the Senior General Manager at SIRIM’s Automotive Engineering Centre. His team intends to turn Malaysia into a regional hub for quality and homologation testing, thus preparing ASEAN automotive manufacturers for world markets. In his words:
“IT’S CALLED HOMOLOGATION, WHEREBY WE TEST COMPONENTS AND PARTS ACCORDING TO INTERNATIONAL GUIDELINES SUCH AS THOSE OF THE WP.29 (WORLD FORUM FOR HARMONIZATION OF VEHICLE REGULATIONS) AND ECE (ECONOMIC COMMISSION FOR EUROPE). IF A VENDOR CAN MEET OR EXCEED THESE STRINGENT STANDARDS, THEN HE IS READY TO COMPETE ABROAD.”
